EVS Methodology
Memory Line: Assessment in Social Studies must check knowledge, skills and attitudes – not only memorised facts and dates.
| Term | Simple Meaning | Example in Social Studies |
|---|---|---|
| Assessment | Collecting information about learning. | Quiz, map work, oral questions, project review. |
| Evaluation | Judging the level of learning using assessment results. | Grading a student’s understanding of “Causes of a movement”. |
| Formative Assessment | Assessment during teaching to improve learning. | Class test on maps, feedback on notebook work. |
| Summative Assessment | End-of-term or end-of-year tests. | Half-yearly and annual exams in Social Studies. |
| CCE | Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation – regular and all-round. | Evaluating projects, participation, behaviour, skills and tests. |
Assessment Analysis and Feedback
| Stage | Teacher Action (Process) | Impact / Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| After Test | Analyse items: which questions many students missed. | Identifies difficult concepts (e.g., map scales, federal system). |
| Feedback to Students | Explain errors, show correct method, give practice tasks. | Reduces repeated mistakes, builds confidence. |
| Feedback to Teaching | Modify method, add activities or TLM in weak areas. | Improves future lessons; teaching becomes more effective. |
Exam Tip: If the question mentions “continuous” – think of regular, day-to-day checks. If it mentions “comprehensive” – think of knowledge + skills + attitudes, not marks alone.
